What is the New Progressive Platform?
Whaler cuts to the heart of the challenge progressives - Democrats & Independents face today. It is no challenge to pick on Bush & Co. It is far more difficult and more rewarding to offer an intelligent and coherent vision that will HELP AMERICA WIN. There are too many issues that are not being addressed, or are being addressed inadequately.
These issues include the the national debt, declining international educational competitiveness, bankrupt corporations, lost pensions, trade deficits, homeland security & disaster response inadequacies, unemployment, poverty, malnutrition, homelessness, inadequate healthcare, starvation, genocide in Africa, preventable diseases & the melting planet,.
Faced with all of these challenges the response from those in power is tax cuts for the richest Americans, with promise of more to come.
What is a modern progressive to do? The first thing that needs to be done is to define what they stand for and deliver their message more effectively than the Radical Right has. Trying to make everyone happy & not offending anyone & just blaming the other guy is not the answer.
America needs leaders who have intelligent answers & work hard to solve national problems & help us win in the global economy.

In response to reb84 post on the challenge of the progressive, I see all the things that are important to everyone not just progressives. But all these things have been talked about adnauseum by every candidate who runs for any federal office. And once they get elected they donothing except maintain the status quo. Both parties are guilty of not delivering effective Gov't. But more to blame thn them, are the voters, or lack of voters, or lack of knowledgable voters. People who understand the way the system is supposed to work, not how much can they get from gov't. People are sadly clueless and vote only in such small special interests. Or single issues. so that being said, we will always have this sort of stale mate between the right and left.we have to take back or cities first and then counties and then states, and show the federal politicians that we know what we are doing and understand as well as them the way things should be done and not let them talk to us like they are taking care of us. They act as though we can't survive whith out Washington. Well I know we can and we need to send the message that they can't count on our support until real measures are taken to right the ship of bloated politicians feathering their nest while the rest of America pays the price.
