A Patriotic Call to Action
On 9/23/05 Whaler - one of our most prolific contributors - delivered a call to action to the American people. Following is a somewhat edited version of Whalers comments (the original text accompanies the 9/20/05 post "What is the New Progressive Platform?")
In response to the REB 84 post on the challenge of the progressive, I see things that are important to everyone not just progressives.
But all these things have been talked about adnauseum by every candidate who runs for any federal office. And once they get elected they do-nothing except maintain the status quo. Both parties are guilty of not delivering effective government.
But more to blame than them, are the voters, or lack of voters, or lack of knowledgeable voters. By this I mean people who understand the way a democratic system is supposed to work, not how much can they get from government. People are sadly clueless and vote only in such small special interests. Or single issues. So that being said, it appears we will always have this sort of stale mate between the right and left.
To make positive change, we have to take back or cities first, next the counties (or parishes) and then states. Once the people have a platform and a voice, it will be time to show the federal politicians we know what we are doing and understand better than them how to address American priorities and show Washington D.C. the way things should be done.
Too many beltway politicians talk to us like they are taking care of us. They act as though we can't survive without Washington. Well I know we can find a better way. We need to send the message that they can't count on our support until real measures are taken to right the ship of filled with bloated politicians feathering their nest and those of their campaign contributors while the rest of America pays the price.

Just thought I'd let you know about a site where you can make over $800 a month in extra income. Go to this site MAKE MONEY NOW and put in your zip code..... up will pop several places where you can get paid to secret shop, take surveys, etc. It's free. I found several and I live in a small town!

We need a new party. The LIBCON party. Social liberals - do pretty much anything you want, just don't hurt other people or ruin the environment. We will utilize sin taxes on the things people do to hurt themselves.
Fiscal conservatives - the government needs to pay its way and pork needs to be removed from our budget diet. Public servants need to start acting like real public servants and spend our money intelligently and as fairly as possible. Government also needs to make sure the wealthiest contribute their fair share to cleaning up the messes they make. A strong government needs to be prepared to enforce the laws it makes, regardles of who contributes to whose campaign

Whaler said it very well, hitting the nail on the head. American voters need to wake up and come out of their apathy. They must seek out 'real news' and become knowledgeable, well informed. They have to realize that FOX News is NOT news. Only knowledgeable voters can turn this dangerous tide which undermines the very foundations of a once-great nation. Please, please wake up before America's hard-won democracy becomes totally shattered by the corruption and greed of politicians who are in the pockets of the corporate, multi-national elite. These power brokers owe no loyalty to any nation. They do not care about whose rights and lives they trample--all that matters is power and riches beyond compare. To them, there is no 'right' or 'left', only their own agenda. It is up to the people to get their heads out of the sand (or TV) and learn about the real issues that impact their lives. Do not allow to be blindly led by corrupt administrations. Contrary to what is being spoon-fed and trumpeted ad nauseam, it is NOT unpatriotic to question the leaders and demand answers. True patriotism means love for one's country, NOT unbridled devotion to unstable leaders. Remember, it is the taxpaying voters who keep these officials in power. To hold them accountable is the right of every citizen. Keep in mind that knowledge is a powerful tool in the right hands. Gain that knowledge, vote accordingly, ensure your voice is heard and that those you elected follow through on promises made. Only this way can the system be changed for the better. Arguably, this is a daunting task that takes time and hard work, but it can be done, starting at the grassroots if need be, talking to anyone who will listen. What you are doing here on this blog is a good start. Keep spreading the message, inform people, speak the honest, unbiased truth. Eventually enough people will hear. What is at stake is a non-partisan issue: it is 'democracy' itself.
