Remembering Katrina's Victims
While Federal, State, and Local officials continue to blame each other for the lack of a coordinated, professional approach to providing help where it was needed most during the Katrina disaster, homeowners in the Gulf must start paying their mortgages or the foreclosure processes will begin. Think about it; if your city got hit by a natural disaster or terrorist attack, what would happen to you? Assuming you get out, you may be lucky and get a government assisted apartment for a couple months, where do you go from there?
Do you have credit card debt? Imagine losing everything to a natural disaster or terrorist attack and not being allowed to declare bankruptcy? The new bankruptcy laws are what American citizens get from those presently in power.
If we hope to make sure government does its job - PROTECTING US - we need to get involved. Too many Americans don't even bother to vote. Citizens need to get off their asses and take this country back from the selfish machine politicians, or quit bitching. Big Money is warping our national priorities.
FYI – Michigan is the only state in the USA where citizens are precluded by law from suing a pharmaceutical company. This was pushed through by John Engler and his Republican partners in the state house. Someone should take a look and remind us of who voted for that bill.
Americans need to work together to make this country a better place. We need to stop calling each other names like "tax and spend liberal" and "Torture loving Right Wing Nut Job" and figure out ways to leave this world better than we found it, for the sake of all our children.

i truely hear what you are saying ...
the major problem, from my point of view, on the great wheel of all possible thoughts; is, there is no way for us to "get off our behinds" and vote ... from all the research i have been able to comprehend, the last two elections have been stolen ...
i think "joe six-pac" is no dummy, and also knows this, though he may not have read any of the research ...
i do not think the "non voting" american citizens are "cynical" or "dumb" or "lazy" ...
i think they get, what i get ... that we are going to have to do something else ... and that it will take a whole lotta, "courage," "respect," and "love of country and fellow citizens," ...
it will take a "huge" commitment to "non-violence" which the mass of American Citizens, have not had a commitment to ... that appears to me, to be the reason we are not taking the step, we need to take.
We need to Stand on our Declaration of Independence ... it instructs us on what to do when a long train of abuses and usurpations happen ...
We have no one to "lead" us to do this next step, and without leadership, the "wild and angry" will "rule" any action we could hope to take, so intuitively knowing this, we don't make a move ...
Self Government requires everyone of us to "lead" ... and "share power" ... and form "consensus" decision making processes.
And.... true consensus cannot happen within time constraints ... and none of us has the "time" to sit for the hours and hours, and days, and weeks, and months, on end, to reach the consensus necessary to "lead" ourselves out of the mess we are in ...
for this reason i enter these blogs, because we must at least, begin to share thoughts and opinions with one another and gain experience in having the patience it will require to move towards a step we can all take ...
i'd like it to be an Constitutional Convention in mass ... say this 4th of July to be held in every community in the country and instead of just fire works and a picknick ... how about a conversation and educational teach-in, about what has happened to our Democratic Republic and it's goal of Liberty and Justic for All.

Noguns,
I must respectfully disagree with your post. The truth is that REB has it right. The only way to change our nation is from within. I happen to swing to the right and voted in both elections. I also voted in the previous 2. I figure that I'm batting .500. Because I did not get my candidate elected in the 2 elections prior to these did not make me loose faith in our system. Ours is the best not only on the planet currently but also the best ever endeavored. If we were to be discouraged at every loss...we would be a nation of loosers. I tell my children that if you never lost, we'd never experience the thrill of a victory well earned and fought. This country was founded on debate and discourse. The founding fathers devised our three branches of government to keep each of them in check. Because you don't agree with them should not make you want to quit. One element built into our system that you are missing is change. Our system was designed to rotate. If you look at the last 220 years you will see that indeed many will have thier day. The mass uprisings and protest get you nowhere with "joe six-pac". "whoever troubles his own household will inherit...the wind" Joe has a 50 hr a week job and is over extened in his credit cards. His kids are in college and his car needs some new rubber. Joe must be won with showing him how your issues will effect him and his family. Revolution is silly. What is the alternative to our system? Anyone can pick out the flaws in it. Leadership is finding solutions. People who don't vote are ignorant. They must be compelled to vote at each and every election from the city dog catcher to the president.
"cynical" or "dumb" or "lazy"...no...I think more apathetic and un-aware.

perhaps i left out all the documentation that the past two elections were "stolen" as in dilebertaly changing the "numbers" so a different candidate than the one that really was voted in is "selected" ... i think it is wrong to vote when the election itself is a fraud ... but we can surely disagree with this one ... just that, that is the reason less than 1/2 of all eligible voters will go to the polls ... have to "prove to us beyond a shadow of a doubt" that the actual vote is counted and not altered.

Where is your documented evidence? I think that if we looked real hard we would find fraud in red and blue areas. Don't be so niave to think that corruption is only on the red side...
By
Cal Trask, at 8:31 AM, December 10, 2005
where did i say fraud was only on the red side ... i said the elections of 2000 and 2004 were stolen ... the documentation is there for anyone who "cares" to see ... i am not in a debate ... i searched and found ...
any anerican citizen who wants to, can also find the documentation ... it is not hard to find or read ...
i am not a teacher, or person that does "homework" for anyone ... i do pass information on to my email circle as i discover it ... and they to me ...

i apologize for that "style" i tend to "slip" into here and there.

From the Brad Blog Archives "Despite Diebold's asserted inability to meet the requirements of state law, the North Carolina Board of Elections today happily certified Diebold without condition. Never mind all of that third party software. Never mind the impossibility of obtaining a list of programmers who had contributed to that code.
And never mind the Board of Election's obligation to subject all candidate voting system to rigorous review before certification, [as per the law which says]:
"Prior to certifying a voting system, the State Board of Elections shall review, or designate an independent expert to review, all source code made available by the vendor pursuant to this section and certify only those voting systems compliant with State and federal law. At a minimum, the State Board's review shall include a review of security, application vulnerability, application code, wireless security, security policy and processes, security/privacy program management, technology infrastructure and security controls, security organization and governance, and operational effectiveness, as applicable to that voting system."

it is stolen at the point of the central tabulators ... no paper trail will help us stop that ...
as i said, the information is "truely out there" and easily found ... i don't debate but i enjoy real citizenship conversation.
the only possible thing to do, from where i sit on the great wheel of all possible thoughts; is mobalize ourselves and that will happen after "many" of "we the people" have disappeared ... kinda like the "uprisings" in the Polish "ghettos" ... at that point it is "way to late" ... i tend to think it is "too late" now.
oh yes, and David Byrne, "kinda likes my style" ...

noguns,
(okay...now you got me ruffled)...
Being a Christian of Hungarian Jewish decent...and being a student of history... to compare anything going on here...I mean anything... to the polish getto uprisings during the nazi occupation is not only offensive but also uneducated. We are dealing with a proven political process that has worked for 200+ years. Because your political candidate didn't win doesn't mean you should "label" the entire system let alone thinly veil a derogatory comment that you're being oppressed by nazis. REPUBLICANS AREN"T NAZIS! Get over it...your guy lost. Grow up. The problem is that our last 2 elections were selected from the lesser of 2 evils. Come on...do you really think that Al Gore or John Kerry would be any better? What we (yes... you and I) need is better candidates. Kerry lost because he was only slightly less unbelievable than Bush. Al Gore made up stuff. These men, while I respect them for thier service to our country, were not very good candidates. "joe" didn't vote for them. People in the cities did. There are MANY MANY MANY better ones out there...SO anyway...please do not hear what I'm not saying. I respect you for having the courage to not only be an artist (so am I) but also actually having an opinion. But...we (and I mean we) need to do a better job of living here in the great democratic experiment rather than call each other names. Give some money this Christmas to poor people... Give the bell ringers a $20 and a cup of coffee... Go to a poor church in a run-down neighborhood...give lots when the plate is passed...(Here's one that I like)Give away art to people you don't know...And last but not least... Vote...get involved...Think globally act locally.
Peace,
CT

rusty posted the following on Rep. Conyers Blog:
Illegal redistricting has been a threat to democracy in America, but Diebold machines are perhaps the greatest threat. Fortunately, the shit has hit the fan today for Diebold:
DIEBOLD CEO RESIGNS AFTER REPORTS OF FRAUD LITIGATION, INTERNAL WOES.
John Byrne
"The chief executive officer of electronic voting company Diebold who once famously declared that he would "deliver" Ohio for President Bush has resigned effective immediately, RAW STORY has learned.
O'Dell's resignation comes just days after reports from BradBlog.com that the company was facing imminent securities fraud litigation surrounding charges of insider trading. It also comes on the heels of a RAW STORY interview with a Diebold insider, who raised new allegations of technical woes inside the company, as well as concerns that Diebold may have mishandled elections in Georgia and Ohio."

sorry to upset you Cal Trask ... however i do think the "ruling" "cabal" are fascists ... most of my Jewish friends feel even stronger about this than i do ... so sorry again that it upsets you ... i don't think so i can upset anyone, ... i think and assess freely, because i am an american citizen, brought up on US Air Force Bases across the country and was taught by my father that i had that right as a citizen ... to do this.
again ... i do not debate ... i sit on the great wheel of all possible thoughts ... thinking and sharing my thoughts when it comes round to me ... if you'd rather i not share thoughts in this forum, i can go ... but the way you notice my thinking goes, is the way it is going and if we as american citizens are ever going to grasp our cultural divide, there is no better forum, that i have noticed that can work with our varies time schedules.
noguns sheehan, santa cruz, ca.
i have read a lot of "freedom of information" material about the "practicing for the round-up" of "AMERICAN CITIZENS", that will refuse to cooperate at the "emergency moment" ... i have been given "death threats" and when 9/11 happened many "PEACE" activists were put on the "NO FLY" lists ... we are now the "threat" ... we tend to believe the "patriot act" was written to make sure "we the PEACEFUL people" would not be allowed to interfere with the "war plans" ...
yep ... extremely "Paranoid" here ... and it is really funny, in a sad sort of way, that it has come to this ... i am not alone in this thinking ...
also, i have many republican friends across the country ... not one of them voted or knows hardly any one who voted for mr. bush ... anecdotal non statistic, just some of "we the people's " experience.
Kerry nor Gore were my "guys" ... i will never vote again until we clear up our recent "unelections" the end of secrecy ... transparent voting and counting ... citizen involvement ... i have many ideas on this that i would love to present when we get to our Constitutional Convention.

Cal & noguns,
I believe you are both demonstrating that blogs & the web are becoming the new town-hall meeting.
However, I also believe that for now "we the people" of the blog world are a small minority, It is up to us to act as evangelists (sorry Cal) & encourage/motivate/cajole more people to get involved. Or as we say at QuestionItNow - "Pay Attention, Ask Question, Speak Up!"
On that note, here is a link to Diebold CEO Resigns, 12/12/05 This on-going discussion has also motiviated me to find VerifieVoting.org I trust you will both find this site interesting.
Thank you both for expressing yourselves and sharing your thoughts.

noguns,
don't leave...I enjoy the way you think. (though sometimes hard to follow)I find you challenging and We need more artists!!! I know you don't want to debate...I just don't think it's helpful to compare the "powers that be" to people who made lampshades out of my relatives. Feeling singled out is something I am well familiar with. When I became a Christian all of my friends from childhood dis-owned me. I was suddenly the "religious nut". My family thinks we're "weird". It was a hard day when I realized that it didn't matter what other people think about the truth...only that I needed to say it and they needed to hear it... Paranoia is also familiar to me...my dad was a cop!Anyway...My intent was not to turn you off but to speak up on something that is dear to my heart...(I also just visited the Holicaust Museum last month...)
Okay?...are we cool?...Keep on Bloggin'!!!
REB
I don't have any problem with using the word "evangelists" for something other than Christianity.

yeah we're cool !!
i love that awesome TRUE AMERICAN attitude ...
when i reflect on what it could really mean to BE an American Citizen, it boils down to what we are doing here ... just talk to each other and grasp how completely unique and "different" thinking, we ALL are ... at that point it is less likely we will say things like "the american people think this, or the AMERICAN People THINK This" ... instead we might be saying things like "WE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" are truely FREE thinking people and can't be put into any pegs ... we disagree and still want to remain UNITED ... as in "one nation under GOD with liberty and justice for all!"
