"The Measure of a Country's Greatness..."
9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, Katrina, crisis after crisis... These are trying times for America. Will we emerge stronger or give into fear and division? How will history remember this time?
How will we measure up?
Where are the leaders who will lead America back to greatness?
"The measure of a country's greatness is its ability to retain compassion in a time of crisis."
- Thurgood Marshall, United States Supreme Court Justice

This is far easier said than done. Election season is right around the corner. How dirty will it get?

It's getting bad here. Every ad I've seen or heard is either a distortion or a lie. The rumble you're feeling isn't an earthquake...it's the founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

I have just begun watching "The Wire" on HBO this season. It provides a gritty and realistic view of Baltimore crime and politics. Or are they the same thing?

"The Wire" is about as close to reality as you can get when it comes to living in B-more

How long have you been watching the show?
I finally got around to watching this season. I saw the pre-season background story. It as billed as the most realistic cop show ever. But, it is more than that. This could just as well be a show about Detroit or Washington DC or any major inner city.

I watched it in it's infancy a few years ago. I just started back up because I got digital cable and it's free for 6 months. It's a draw to me because my father, grandfather, uncle and good friend of mine from church were and are Baltimore City Police officers. It's sad to say that much of what is shown is true...including the corruption part. Everyday in the news we hear stories about cops going bad and the like. Check out one of the locals here like www.wjz.com or www.thewbalchannel.com. You'll see what I mean. ...BTW Are you going to post anything about Hugo-a-go-go in NYC yesterday? I thought Rangel was priceless!

I know a few Detroit cops and a paramedic who works in the city. I also have a friend who was a consultant to the Detroit Schools and has plenty of stories about the school board. I have also had the opportunity to meet two Detroit Mayors and one Chief of Staff. I also know plenty of business people from Detroit. I was married in and continue to attend (at least once a month) a beautiful old church in Detroit. From what I have heard and seen, Baltimore is very much like Detroit.
I have also been thinking that most politicians get their starts in similar environments. However, the corruption and back-door dealings are better hidden behind pseudo-politeness in the suburbs. The higher up they go, the more influence they can peddle. Halliburton is the top of the heap.
BTW - W. was in town for three hours a couple weeks ago and raised $1.2 million over a $2,500/plate lunch. Tell me all of this money was raised honestly.
I am preparing a little something about some of the latest speeches at the UN, etc. Most likely to appear at Will America Lead? in the next few days.
