Be Thankful for American Optimism
John F. Kennedy spoke of American optimism, and our ability to invent and solve great problems. For Americans to solve our current multifaceted sets of problems we must reclaim the 'can do' spirit JFK described."The American, by nature, is optimistic. He is experimental, an inventor and a builder who builds best when called upon to build greatly."
After writing the Kennedy quote I Google searched "American Optimism" and found the following Q & A with Dennis Kucinich. He is a man who speaks with conviction.
Q: What is your top priority for the nation?
A: "My priority would be a domestic agenda that would really be met. We're not asking the right questions. We just accept that war is inevitable, and that this fear that's over the country is something we're stuck with. My presidency would be about the end of fear and the beginning of hope — to try to regain that essential American optimism that really gives us that can-do attitude. We've lost a little bit of that since 9/11. I think I can help the country regain it."

This is an interesting idea...Idealistic maybe. In a perfect world these are great ideals. The problem with idealism is that it leaves out the human factor. The idea that we can make nice with every nation on earth is silly. To remove funding in Iraq is suicide. Isolationism doesn't solve the crisis in the mid-east. As far as Iran goes, I still wonder where the no-nukers are? Why is there no outcry for a dangerous form of energy being ran by a weak economy in a theocracy? That's what scares me. As you can tell I'm no fan of Mr K.

I tried to post 2 links ...wouldn't work
briefly:
Ahmadinejad:" The Zionist regime is on a steep downhill towards collapse and disgrace,'' Ahmandinejad told supporters at a rally of Basiji militia forces near Tehran today. In a reference to the U.S. and U.K., he said ``the collapse and crumbling of your devilish rule has started."
Chavez: "On December 3 we're going to defeat the most powerful empire on earth by knockout,"
Not the time to bury our head in the sand...

I don't think Kucinich is stating we need to "make nice" with all other countries. There is a difference between blind idealism and realistic optimism. Fear has been used against the American way of life for far too long. It is time to look at our challenges from new perspectives.
Optimism and hope do not equal denial.
The no-nukers seem to have disppeared in the 1980's. When is the last time you heard from them about anything?
