Support Our Troops - Listen to Them

Its amazing how the American media works. We have lost fifteen more American service people over the last couple days, and what is getting attention? Its just another sex scandal. And it wasn't even real sex.

Florida Republican Rep. Mark Foley's instant message records indicate he is a dude who gets off on fantasy cyber sex with teenaged boys. I believe this is the first virtual sex scandal in Washington DC political history.

Back here in the real world, American men and women are killed, maimed and scarred, both physically and emotionally every day. War is hell. Finally, the mainstream media is beginning to support our troops by speaking the truth about their sacrifices.

Dear Friend,

Here at IAVA, we've been talking for over two years about flood of Iraq veterans coming home with serious mental health issues like depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Finally, these crucial issues are beginning to get the attention they deserve.

This week, US News and World Report did a great story on the issue, featuring me and IAVA Member Vet Michael Zacchea. This article is one of the most comprehensive and high-visibility pieces to date published on the growing problem of PTSD.

You can see all of our press coverage, including recent op-eds in the New York Times and New York Daily News and an appearance on Fox News, by clicking here. Like what you read? Remember to forward IAVA articles to spread the word about these crucial issues.

Sincerely,

Paul Rieckhoff

I don't think that this is going to end up being a "virtual" scandal. Reading those messages leads me to believe that Foley had real sex with some of those pages. Of course none of them will probably want to admit it, the GOP has shown that their privacy will not be respected if they come forward. Everyone remembers Anita Hill.

I hear the Administration talk a lot about "Cut and Run" and I wonder if they understand the term "Overstayed Their Welcome."
1. No WMD
2. No Al Quaeda link to 9/11
3. Iraq's Republican Guard
4. Sadam Captured
5. Elections Held
6. Ahmed Abdel Hadi Chalabi Exposed

What is victorious Mr. Bush, when can we leave this place we are not wanted. Or do you have to ask Dick?

I can't believe the congress did not do a better job vetting Chalabi in the runup to the war. It would not have taken too much effort to find out he was convicted of embezzlement in Jordan.

The Bush crew talks constantly about "cut and run." Have they ever defined what "stay the course" means? Is the cours the "highway to hell"?

I'm seriously considering voting for a republican candidate for Senate here in Michigan. I see that Debbie Stabenaw voted in favor of Bush's torture bill. Senator Levin did not.

Maybe it is time to get beyond party and vote on principles. I believe habeous corpus is an important thing in a country that was founded on the principles of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of hapiness."

Go Tigers!!!

It seems to me that all Americans need to be doing more research on who they will vote for. In some cases it seems like our own media is guilty of misleading the American people. The truth is the truth and why can't we get it on the facts not others opinion's.When the Vice President will only turn to Fox what does that tell ya? I think this President and his cronies will go down in history as being the worst ever. The administation should have stayed the course in diplomatic resources when Iraq was thought to have weapons of mass destruction we all know the outcome that came from that cowboy stupidity.I think Russia and China are to be commended for thier rational approach.I think we talk to them if the want to talk not intimidate small countries.

Brenda,

I agree with most of your premise. However, too many Democrats have not stood up to the administration like Russ Feingold (who was the only Senator to vote against the original Patriot Act).

Russia and China may have a "rational approach" to certain geo-political events. They look after their own self-interests. I think this is why our policy on the Middle-East makes them nervous.
