JAZZER

OhioDem1 recently published a very well researched White Paper about the new Medicare Drug Policy. This paper clearly demonstrates that American consumers are subsidizing American Pharmaceutical companies and foreign consumers as a direct result of U.S. governmental intervention. This should lead concerned citizens to ask what ever happened to consumer rights in the USA?

OhioDem's paper reminded me of a blog that clearly describes what it is like to be without health care and living in poverty as a single mother in today's world.

About Me:"Im just a mom that has a lot of compassion for the world and how we are treating it. I love life but i really want to cry when i see all the hate and greed that consumes so much of our daily life and it is starting to become a natural state of being in our everyday lives." jazzer

"when you have a minimum wage of 5.15 it creates more problems than just trying to make it paycheck to paycheck .most likely there are kids involved .the innocent bystanders.my blog 'america is heading where' is asking another question that is a direct problem of the 5.15 minimum wage and what that wage really has to offer.i just know that there has to be a line drawn soon, because there are too many people that are just spinning their wheels just trying to survive for themselves and the children that were innocently brought into our mess" By , jazzer at 2:19 AM, February 01, 2006

Too many Americans are living on the edge of survival. Yet, we very rarely hear about it. This is a problem most of us don't want to think about. But, it is reality.

"Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely"

I suspect almost everyone is familiar with the quote, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." I also suspect that most people have no idea who uttered these famous words. Lord Acton (1834-1902) brought a unique international perspective to questions of power and morality to Europe during the height of the British Empire.

Following is this great quote in deeper context. "Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end...liberty is the only object which benefits all alike, and provokes no sincere opposition...The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to to govern. Every class is unfit to govern...Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

These words were inspired by deep historical research illustrated by the following testimony. "His estate at Cannes (France) had more than 3,000 books and manuscripts; his estate at Tegernsee (Bavaria), some 4,000; and Aldenham (Shropshire, England), almost 60,000. He marked thousands of passages he considered important." - www.libertystory.net

Amazingly, Lord Acton was self-taught having not even received a high-school diploma. However he was awarded multiple honorary doctorates. America will be well served to listen to his timeless words. Who will emerge to ask the tough questions and speak truth to power?
