A CASE FOR LOVE II

"Our average fellow-citizen is a sane and healthy man who believes in decency and has a wholesome mind."
- Theodore Roosevelt.

Teddy Roosevelt's hopeful words provide us with a message to live by. In our modern "culture of fear" and isolation, too many people are afraid of different people. I am fortunate, I have met thousands of people over my lifetime, and I believe that what President Roosevelt said is true. "Our average fellow citizens" are "we the people."

During my time on earth I have become convinced that assholes are in the minority, thank god. Yet, assholes lust for power and will do most anything to hold onto power. On the other hand, assholes born of povety and ignorance, are much more prone to violent street crimes. These are the assholes who make the 11:00 news. The assholes in power normally laugh all the way to the bank. It is time to take the headlines back. I am feeling hopeful. The winds of change are coming. "We the People" are waking up.

GOD = LOVE
GOD = LIFE
LOVE = LIFE

LIVE LOVE!

Confusing Voters and Manipulating Emotions

Confusing voters and manipulating emotions is what 21st Century Republicans do best. When a Republican, usually in the form of a Bill Frist sets a date for a "debate" on this or that emotional/divisive issue, the tactic is a means of diverting attention from one thing or many things they do not want the American people to notice. This is most blatantly clear with "non-binding" resolutions.

One recent example, Bill Frist sets a debate on Immigration. Tom DeLay sneaks out the back door with very little publicity. By rights, DeLay should have been expelled from the House in disgrace, yet he gets to leave on his own terms, at a date that maximizes Republican political benefit in Texas. All of this happens right under the noses of our so called "liberal media."

If the press is so liberal, why was DeLay allowed to stay on as long as he did, with very few news outlets calling out the Republican leadership? Where are investigative reporters today? Why is there only one Helen Thomas? Where are the truth seekers of today?

George Washington is Turning Over in His Grave

Lately, I have heard too much negativism from progressive bloggers. Just because one of Karl Rove's lawyers said he won't be indicted doesn't make it so. It is also irrelevant. For those of you feeling down: Don't despair. It is time to act. It is time to kick asses and take names. It it time to fight. It is time to Take America Back.

It is time to read. It is time to read what our Founding Fathers had to say. Bush's signing statements and the concept of a "unitary executive" have George Washington turning over in his grave. "The independence and liberty you possess are the work of joint efforts, of common dangers, sufferings, and success."

Fast forward to 2006 -

"joint efforts" is translated into 'the middle class gets squeezed by the rich and the poor.'

"common dangers" = color coded terror threat levels rising just before elections.

joint "suffering" = Tax Cuts for the rich.

"success" = 'leader' who has never been successful in any previous job. Lovely resume there W?

Please, America, don't let George Washington down. Bring competent public servants back into American Government. We need to restore oversight and accountability. We need to re-institute an effective balance of powers. Can we afford to do less?

Solar Power Grows in Europe

"I was going to write to you about the world's largest existing solar power plant at Bavaria Solarpark in Muehlhausen, Germany when I came across this on the internet:

LISBON (AP)--GE Energy, PowerLight Corp. and Catavento energy companies Tuesday began building the world's largest solar power plant.

The 11-megawatt solar power plant, comprising 52,000 photovoltaic modules, is being built in one of Europe's sunniest areas in Serpa, 200 kilometers southeast of Lisbon. The EUR61 million plant is expected to be completed by January 2007.

With over 350,000 solar panels installed in some 10,000 structures spread across 114 hectares, the Serpa plant will have a 62-megawatt capacity, six times more than the present largest solar plant, in Germany.

It will produce enough electricity to supply 8,000 homes and save more than 30,000 metric tons in greenhouse gas emissions when compared to fossil fuels.

I recently heard (on PBS?) that President Carter had solar panels installed on the White House roof during the energy crisis in the 1970s but Reagan had them torn out when he was in office. Great message for our citizens."

Keep It Simple Stupid

#21 OhioDem1 - The following simple quote from the NRCC link you provided perfectly illustrates the neo-con approach to winning elections. "The National Republican Congressional Committee is rallying Republicans to join them today to stop the Democrats' momentum. A Democratic controlled Congress means higher taxes, fewer jobs and weak national security. Americans deserve lawmakers who will represent their values in Washington."

For a peek at the Rovian Republican Strategy note the simple, direct language in this paragraph and also note the structure:

1) CALL TO ACTION - The NRCC is focused on one thing, holding onto power.

2) FEARMONGERING - If Dems rule "higher taxes, fewer jobs, and weak national security."

3) BE LIKE ME - We "represent (your)values" Yes, the party of corruption is still running on shared values. Using gay marriage, abortion, immigration and other wedge issues to stir up the base will be attempted. Will voters bite again?

COUNTER ATTACK
- To win against incumbant republicans Democrats and Independents need to take a page from Rove's playbook. "Keep it simple, stupid!"

This is the era of attention deficit disorder caused by information overload. In order to be heard, politicians need to get voter attention in 10 seconds. Keeping it "short and simple" (even when blatantly inaccurate) has helped the republicans win.

I believe that Democrats need some catch phrases to help them win. The "Culture of Corruption" is a good start. However, it did not require much imagination.

Personally, I like:

Pay Attention
ask questions
Speak Up!

What do you think?
