Bush War Policy Explained
"We don't know what we want, but we are ready to bite somebody to get it."- Will RogersCheck out the quotes link in title. Will Rogers delivered timeless, bitingly humorous observations of politics and the human condition. The following quote works too well at describing our perpetual 'war on terror.'
"You can’t say that civilization don’t advance, however, for in every war they kill you in a new way."

From what I have read, Will Rogers was the one of the nicest men ever to grace this country. I found some great more quotes:
I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.
I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!
If Stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out?
The taxpayers are sending congressmen on expensive trips abroad. It might be worth it except they keep coming back!
There ought to be one day -- just one -- where there is open season on senators.
There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you.
Mr Rogers was famous for being profound in his humor. He was a very observant man. I wish he was still around. The problem is he isn't. His world has ended. The hope of the baby Boomers has ended because it was based on a lie. The lie that men alone can save the world. We are the richest nation ever in the history of the planet. Yet we have the highest murder rates on that same planet. We have become our own worse nightmare. A Technocracy led by the media...Why are we Iraq? Look at the facts. Nearly everyone agreed it was a good idea...bad data or not. Now we have a bunch of finger pointers calling each other names and threatening each other...I just thought we should be spending our time and energy ENDING the war instead of bickering. Bad data is a tough thing to deal with. Because some of your data is unverified does that mean you should eliminate all of the data? How about the cloning data from Korea? should we end research here because the data was falsified? How about the lack of data for the proof of Evolution? Does that mean we end the study? strong questions. Everyone with half a brain thought Sadaam had WMD. many think that they're still there in the desert somewhere. Anyway...I'll get off of the soapbox now
The point is "what do we do now?" Running away is not the answer....
OK Dems...Let's hear it...The nation is waiting.
Will Rogers world has not ended. You make that perfectly clear with his quote "If Stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out?" This is a perfect description of how think-tank induced blind arrogance got us into Iraq.
Sorry, Cal but that bad intelligence bullshit has been shot town far too often for it to hold water. Witness Richard Clarke, Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson. Follow the link from Still In Iraq to "The Dark Side" to learn more about how the intelligence was twisted by Cheney and Rumsfeld.
This war was not started because Sadam threatened America. It was started because some stupid and dangerous people decided to squander American lives and treasure in order to experiment with their theories of "Democracy on the March." Since when does a democracy march?
"The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow." -- Bill Clinton in 1998
"There's no question that Saddam Hussein is a threat... Yes, he has chemical and biological weapons. He's had those for a long time. But the United States right now is on a very much different defensive posture than we were before September 11th of 2001... He is, as far as we know, actively pursuing nuclear capabilities, though he doesn't have nuclear warheads yet. If he were to acquire nuclear weapons, I think our friends in the region would face greatly increased risks as would we." -- Wesley Clark on September 26, 2002
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Ted Kennedy, September 27, 2002
"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." -- From a letter signed by Joe Lieberman, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara A. Milulski, Tom Daschle, & John Kerry among others on October 9, 1998
“Most of the official statements on Iraq’s weapons programs were supported by a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iraq that was produced, partially in response to congressional requests, over a three week period in September 2002. …
Three aspects of the report merit particular attention: It was produced far more quickly than is normal for such documents; it went far beyond the concensus intelligence assessments of the preceding five years; and, it had more serious dissents to its key findings than any other declassified NIE.”

Carnegie Endowment
“C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. The NSC had no patience with the UN route, and no enthusiasm for publishing material on the Iraqi regime's record. There was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action.”

Yes but you can't say it was all Rummy and the Veep. Bubba was sure that Sadaam had WMD...Albright was sure...
I'm saying that the system failed and that our intellegence was faulty...Everyone involved to blame! Now that we see that...Let's Get on with the business of learning by our mistakes and stop pointing fingers...get some REAL work done.
