How do you play corn toss?

1. Landing the beanbag through the hole – 3 Points.
2. Beanbag knocked into the hole by another bag – 3 Points.
3. Landing the beanbag on the board – 1 Point.
4. Beanbag half on the board –1 Point.

Cornhole is a word with an R-rated connotation, but it’s also the easiest and most literal way to explain the game. Why is it called Cornhole? Because the object is to throw a corn kernel-filled bag into a 6-inch hole cut into a tilted platform.

Place boards on a flat surface approximately 24 feet apart for casual play. Tournament or league play is set at 27 feet apart from the front ends of the boards. Divide players into two teams of one to two people. When teams are made up of one person, each team will play the game from the same board.

All bean bags must be tossed underhand. Each player must stand behind the toss line when tossing a bean bag. If a player’s foot crosses the toss line when tossing a bean bag, his/her points for that toss are not counted and turn is lost. Distraction or interference with opposing players will result in lost turn.

It’s been called many things: Corn Toss, Bean Bag, Bean Toss, Soft Horseshoes, Indiana Horseshoes, but to many of us born and raised in Kentucky and the southern part of Ohio, the game is passionately referred to as Cornhole.

USA Cornhole was formed in 2019 as the official National Governing Body for the sport of cornhole. The vision of the organization is to become an Olympic sport.

10. The Cornhole match shall be played until the first team of players reaches 21 points exactly at the completion of a turn. If a team exceeds 21 points that team drops back to 13 points, and the game proceeds as normal.

Four Bagger – Similar to a double deuce or gusher a 4 bagger is when a single player gets four bags in the hole in a single round.

After sending a poll to 150 DePauw students asking their thoughts on cornhole versus bags, only 24% of students prefer to call it bags, while a whopping 76% call it cornhole.

The ACL paid out $250,000 to pros like Henderson last season, and the total payout this season could reach $1 million. Top players make up to $60,000, including payouts from local events.

It’s best to aim for the exact center of the board. Most people go wrong by aiming straight for the hole. They forget that the bags slide and end up missing. If you aim for the middle you are more likely to land on the board and slide into the hole.

Take turns launching bean bags at the ladder. Points are scored with each toss that makes it through a ladder rung. Keep track of your points and play either until you reach a certain score or by the most points after a certain number of rounds.

Each player starts with three beanbags. Players stand approximately six feet from the board to toss their beanbags, alternating turns. The beanbags are only retrieved after all six are thrown. Whenever three matching symbols in a row are turned over by either player, the game ends immediately.

Designate one side as “Heads” and the other as “Tails.” Flip a coin, and announce to the players what side came up. If it comes up heads, all of the “Heads” players have to run back to their side before they are tagged by their “Tails” partner. If “Tails” is called, the reverse happens.
