Prevotella melaninogenica. Prevotella melaninogenica are gram-negative, non-spore forming, obligate anaerobic, coccobacilli that are commonly found in the oral cavity of humans; however, they are also found in other areas of the body where they can act as opportunistic pathogens.
Antibiotics for treating Prevotella include metronidazole, amoxycillin/clavulanate, ureidopenicilins, carbapenems, cephalosporins, clindamycin, and chloramphenicol (Pavillion). Prevotella is also well-known as a preventative agent for the bovine disease of rumen acidosis.

Diets that are loaded with fruits and veggies and low in meat have been linked to more diverse microbiota and an abundance of good bacteria like Prevotella. Meat-heavy diets can increase the abundance and activity of microorganisms that have been linked to inflammatory bowel disease .
