JOB GOAL: The BCBA will provide support to individuals and their families by coordinating and providing services in Applied Behavior Analysis, function analyses and assessment, behavior acquisition and reduction procedures, and adaptive life skills.
Supervision: Your BCBA will also observe the behavior therapist, provide constructive feedback, model programs and interventions, and answer questions. A well trained behavior therapist is quick, confident and motivated. It is the BCBA’s job to make sure that the behavior therapist remains supported.

The BCBA recognizes individuals who have specific training in the principles of applied behavior analysis. A BCBA is often thought of as working with students with Autism, but it is not an Autism specific credential.
Many would be wondering and questioning,” Is BCBA a good career?” The answer is yes, of course. The title might require time and labor but, in long term can be quite rewarding and introduce you to some of the best experiences ever.
A BCBA or BCaBA will provide assessments of children and create treatment plans, but a RBT can still provide direct behavior analysis services (or ABA therapy) to clients. They may also be referred to as a “paraprofessional.”
In a typical BCBA position, you will have a full caseload of clients that could be served at settings spread all over town (at school, in the community, in-home), and there will be a team attached to each client. That team will depend on you and regularly need your assistance or support outside of work hours.
Since passing the BCBA exam and becoming a full-time employee, I have found that I enjoy the background work just as much as direct therapy. It is exciting to come in to work every day and be around people working toward the same goal: improving the lives of children with Autism.
