A HOPE Scholarship recipient must graduate from high school with a minimum 3.00 grade point average (as calculated by GSFC) and maintain a minimum 3.00 cumulative postsecondary grade point average to remain eligible.
Award Amounts. For 2020-2021, the HOPE Scholarship pays a maximum of $7,680 for two semesters of enrollment in 15 HOPE eligible credits per term. Actual payment amounts for HOPE will be pro-rated down for students enrolled in fewer than 15 eligible hours.
Make sure you understand what hours are counted in your HOPE Attempted-Hours. In addition, students are only eligible to receive the HOPE Scholarship until 7 (seven) years from the date of the student’s high school graduation, home study completion, or successful GED test.
A student who was not academically eligible for the HOPE Scholarship as an entering college freshman may become eligible for the HOPE Scholarship after attempting 30, 60, or 90 semester hours or 45, 90, or 135 quarter hours of study with a minimum 3.0 cumulative postsecondary grade point average.
HOPE provides $167.00 per credit hour for the 2019-2020 academic year. Students are evaluated at 30, 60, and 90 attempted hours and at the end of every spring term. If you lose HOPE, you may regain your eligibility only at the 30th, 60th or 90th attempted hour. You may lose and regain HOPE one time.

To be eligible for federal student aid and college financial aid, a student must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). This generally consists of maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (i.e., at least a C average) and passing enough classes with progress toward a degree.

HOPE and Zell Miller are merit based scholarship programs available to students who have met the University System of Georgia and the GSFC residency requirements and are enrolled in an undergraduate degree seeking program. Students may receive HOPE or Zell Miller, but NOT both at the same time.

A student is not required to be enrolled full time to receive the HOPE/ Zell Miller Scholarship.
For the HOPE average only, the “unweighted” numerical grade will be converted to a 4.0 scale, then . 5 points will be added to the converted score. No grades higher than a 4.0 will be awarded. Example: A student earns an 88 in AP Biology, and has a weighted numerical average of 98 with the 10 points.
